Welcome to Red Velvet Revelry
Hi I’m Marie Louise a storyteller writing, collecting and sharing real life stories from women as a way of celebrating the sexual aspects of life and counteracting the shame so many of us have been socialised to associate with talking about our sexuality, our bodies and and our own lived experiences
I’m also a woman in the second half of life exploring what it means to be a whole, happy, sexual individual. For most of my life it hasn’t been possible for me to hear women telling the happy life-affirming stories about sexuality that I needed to hear.
My intention is that by sharing my stories, and inviting other women to do the same, those of us who would like to can explore and embrace this vital area of life together.
I’m starting from where I am as someone who is white, straight, not disabled and has always identified as a woman, living in Scotland in the transitional middle years of my life.
I’m inviting others whose journey is similar or different to mine to share their stories too, so we can all benefit from them.
Guidelines and Prompts
Women’s life-giving true stories around sexuality- why do I want them?
I need to hear them and so do other women.
This is an invitation for any woman who has received the message that they must not talk about sex and pleasure to reclaim their voice.
What wilI I do with the stories?
With the writer’s permission I will add them to the Red Velvet Collection-a repertoire of stories which are a resource for re-telling live and for sharing anonymously on Substack.
Can I use sexual language?
Yes if that helps you communicate your experience but it’s definitely not required
What word count is appropriate?
Please aim for 500-1500 words
What do I do if I want to share a story?
You can email me at queenofrevelry@gmail.com
I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.
If writing is not your preferred way of telling a story we can also do a Zoom chat.
An mp3 recording or a voice message is also good.
Here are a few prompts to get you in the mood:
Tell me a story you want other women to hear…
Tell me about why you love your body…
Tell me about a sensual encounter which made you feel beautiful or alive or healed in some way…
Tell me about a sexual encounter or relationship which gave you hope…
Tell me about how you make love to yourself…
Tell me a funny story related to sex that makes you smile…
Tell me of a time you were surprised and delighted…
Tell me about what it’s like to become a sexually fulfilled woman…
Tell me about what it’s like to try something different and like it…
Tell me what its like to be your own woman in bed and how that impacts other areas of your life…
Other ideas? Go for it. I look forward to hearing from you.
With warm wishes,
Marie Louise
